I liked this, Danny. Good job. I am a huge Campbell fan myself.

Re: "choice is good" takeaway - how did you resist the overwhelming urge to say "but be smart - be s-mart?"

Thought-provoking post as usual, Danny. Any chance to talk about Bruce Campbell eh?
  • Danny Brown · 4 months ago
Okay, I give in - what am I missing on the "s-mart" bit? :)
  • April, the ispecialist · 4 months ago
I think it's the store Ash Williams worked in. "S-Mart". Course I haven't checked that fact, except with my teen, so I may be wrong.

Ha, that actually makes sense, and shame on me for not getting it - Joe will probably want my right arm now... ;-)

This is one of the best blog reads that I have had in a long time (and I read about 20 a day, seriously)...what a great point of view supported with sound observations and direct examples of why he is indeed THE MAN! Thanks for this...
  • Danny Brown · 4 months ago
Hey, cheers Tyler, appreciate it fella. And yes, Bruce is most definitely THE MAN! :)

Would love to re-tweet this but alas Twitter is down. LOVE it Danny! I would like to add to this fantastic analogy with a comment I think Bruce made at some con somewhere (not that I'm a geek) Bruce Campbell: "The movies that are the easiest to make are the hardest to watch. "

Besides define the brand I would add "Own Your Brand" Bruse has a great quote:
“For a long time I was embarrassed to say I was a 'B' movie actor, But now that I see what Hollywood's putting out, I realized 'B' actually means 'better.'”

I read Bruce's biography on my last vacation, and it's a great read. I highly recommend it. Great article as well!

This is great Danny! "Choice is good, but confusion is dangerous. Be innovative but be smart." Smart innovation is often missed and kills many plans. Simplistic innovation with value... delivered consistently wins the game. P.S. Bill is absolutely hilarious :-)

    Bill? ;-)

I thought you'd like the "Grooviness", Maria :)

I guess that's what happens when you try to multi-task LOL
I was watching an old Bill Murray movie ;-) Too funny, sign I need to unplug :-)

Not in a million years would I see a blog post connecting Bruce Campbell with any marketing ideas. I had the greatest time enjoying an informative read, and drifting down the memory lane when I hid behind the couch when watching Army of darkness, Evil Dead..C'mon I was just less than 8 that time! I even caught him as Brisco County, TV drama and that show cracks me up big time. Well done on sharing the marketing ideas -- a big tip for the BC fans.

Irreverent is my middle name... ;-)

I recall seeing Army of Darkness in the cinema when it came out. At the time, I was a little underwhelmed - I felt it concentrated just a little too much on the comedy side. Over repeated views, I've come to enjoy it a lot more. So I guess takeaway #4 is: "Slow burning is usually better than a blast of heat. Bright lights can burn out fast but conserved energy prepares you for a longer stay."

    Thanks Ching!

Bruce Rocks, Since you already took him. How about Allen funt from Candid Camera. He was a master at interacting.
  • Danny Brown · 4 months ago
Wow, now you're going back a bit - yes, great call!

Very good points. I have to agree with them especially if you do not support your cause then how can you market it? I don't understand how that could happen. I could have been apart of something but I didn't believe in the product so I didn't take the position. NO matter how much they wanted me to be involved it wasn't working.

I never knew much about Bruce Campbell until my sister loaned me his autobiography, "If Chins Could Kill" and I had a blast reading it. I don't even like horror movies. Well, if it weren't for his connection with a relative of mine mentioned in the book, I would've never looked at it. So now I cheer for him whenever I see him.

That's an actor who knows how to market and give value. Another one is Niecy Nash. That flower thing? It's to help you remember her. It may annoy some folks, but you gotta admit the trademark paid off.
