Great post as usual, Danny. I was priviledged to see Barry White live in Sydney a few years ago before he passed. It brought back some great memories. Thank you.

    Cheers, Iggy

Some of my friends and mentors through my life have been complete opposites of me… sometimes people that are opposites of us can give us a great insight into ourselves, as well to forcing us to master essential skills that before we never really had to use like compromise. – In turn I think the same principles can be translated to businesses and their marketing strategies.

    Thanks for sharing Danny :)

That's a great point, Tom. If we surround ourselves by people that either agree with us, or enjoy purely the same stuff, how will we learn what else is out there? Like you say, same applies for business - you really want to stay just in that protected little niche?

OMG! Have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo6H_fB0xsI

First I read your post and thought of Paula Abdul, but then the above popped into my brain :)

    Great post as always!

I suspect, very often, it's more of a rogue person within the company that starts doing this stuff, creating accounts, participating and this effort is then brought to the attention of the organization.

Not sure I agree with the opposites attract thought, but there is certainly a good point there.

    Danny,

Just watching this video brought tears to my eyes. How inspirational and what a great start to my day. Fantastic thoughts (as usual) and I'll be sharing them with several of my clients who are questioning the need for social media forthwith. Thanks for always being there with an original, impactful thought (or two).

Interesting you used a music clip to make the point! Working w/independent musicians who are professionals, and now on their own w/o the benefit of record labels are most hesitant to use SM. It isn't they don't understand the power, they just don't have time. A year ago I was still digging my heels in, but took the plunge and and huge learning curve to learn all that I can for their benefit. As an old school music publicist...this is an amazing journey.

Keep using the music, if for no other reason that to support this group of working class musicians who really need our support in every way!

Funnily enough, I used to contribute to an indie music publication back in the day. It was always interesting to see how they were (or weren't) using the emerging technologies of the time. Some were more successful than others, and created virtual street teams to help them with their PR.

I think as more people see social media as a normal practice as opposed to something "new", we may see more innovation and risk-takers coming through. Here's hoping it's not too late for some, Janet.

And kudos to you for supporting music - always a plus point in my book. :)
